Food and Health programmes, which aim to encourage healthy eating, are provided throughout Laois and Offaly to help people foster positive changes in their eating habits and overall health.  These programmes are a joint initiative between Laois Partnership Company and the Health Service Executive and are delivered by local people, trained in nutrition and facilitation skills, by experienced Food and Health leaders and HSE Community Dieticians.  The programmes include the following:

  1. Healthy Food Made Easy (HFME) – healthy eating course (duration – 6 weeks)
  2. Healthy Heart – a follow on course after Healthy Food Made Easy (duration – 3 weeks)
  3. Cool Dudes – healthy eating course designed for children (duration 5 weeks)
  4. Able 2 Cook 4 Health – healthy eating course designed for people with low literacy skills/learning difficulties (duration 6 weeks)

Positive Mental Health

Our Community Health programme aims to support people towards positive mental health. Music, song and dance sessions and creative arts workshops are provided to groups suffering from mental ill health issues. Mental health workshops are provided in conjunction with relevant agencies and bereavement and separation counselling is also provided to clients in acute need.

Laois Connects

Laois Connects is a week-long annual programme aimed at helping people in communities across Laois to cope with mental health issues. The awareness week aims to highlight the importance of taking care of our own mental health and also generating an awareness of the range of supports within Laois for people.

The word ‘CONNECTS’ stands for Community, Ourselves, Nature, Nurture, Engage, Cope, Talk and Support. The full programme of events is organised by Laois Community Forum in collaboration with the HSE, Laois Sports Partnership, Laois Partnership Company, Mental Health Ireland, Laois County Council and Laois VEC.
