Environment Worshops

Environmental Awareness Workshop with Duncan Stewart – Sun, 29th Sept, Killeshin Hotel

Date for Your Diary – 29th September – Killeshin Hotel – 2pm to 6pm

Laois Environmental Workshop and associated training programme.

The above programme will kick off with a public workshop led by Duncan Stewart on Sunday 29th September at the Killeshin Hotel (2pm to 6pm),

It will comprise short presentations (from Duncan Stewart, Dr Michael O Cinneide – Director EPA, and John Mulholland – CEO Laois County Council) about the challenges and opportunities of embracing this transition, followed by break-away group sessions, which conclude in an open public discussion on key environmental topics that are particularly relevant and of interest to people in County Laois.

This event will form the start of a series of four Sustainability Workshops that will take place in Portlaoise and Mountrath from October to December. The workshops are designed to inform, inspire and enable Laois citizens, communities and farmers, through dialogue and consensus, on how to shape this transformation to a ‘zero-carbon’, Circular Economy, with a focus on practical and cost-effective solutions. This includes ways to protect and enhance natural habitats, rivers, air-quality and farming, along with sustainable solutions for transport in County Laois. All the above will require top-down support from Laois County Council in collaboration with key state agencies, along with forward thinking local businesses.

The four Sustainability Workshops are as follows:

  1. Energy use in the Home: Date TBC
  2. Sustainable Transport: Date TBC
  3. Biodiversity Protection: Date TBC
  4. Sustainable Farming:   Date TBCAlongside these, we will also be running two comprehensive training programmes. The “teacher/community champion programme”, which will be hosted at Laois Education Centre, Portlaoise. This will comprise eleven modules that cover a wide range of environmental themes. We will also deliver a homeowner training programme which will take homeowner through the steps involved in making homes more carbon efficient. All of the above activities are organized by our group ‘Eco Ed4 All’ with funding provided by Laois Partnership and Laois LCDC through the LEADER programme.

Details of the full programme will be outlined at our opening event on Sunday 29th September and will also be posted on a dedicated website: www.ecoed4all.com/ (under construction)
