 Health Promotion Project – Food for Health

What is the Food and Health programme?

Food and Health is a nutrition programme, where members of the community are trained to deliver a 6-week Healthy Food Made Easy course to groups in the local area.  Healthy Food Made Easy is a practical course, which helps participants to plan meals, shop, cook and eat in a healthy way.  Food and Health Leaders are paid for each course delivered.   This project is a joint initiative between the HSE and Laois Partnership and is expanding in 2012 to deliver courses in new areas across Laois and Offaly.

How do I become a Food and Health Leader?

All Food and Health Leaders receive training in nutrition and facilitation skills.   Experienced Food and Health Leaders and HSE Community Dietitians will run this training.   To become a Food and Health Leader all training sessions must be attended.

Training

Training will be over 14 sessions (3 hours each).  Two sessions will be run each week for 7 weeks. Training dates and venues are to be agreed.

Who can apply?

Anyone with an interest in healthy eating, with their own transport, who is available to deliver courses during the day and possibly, in the evening.

We are looking for applicants from the following areas: Laois and Offaly.   Successful applicants from each area will be offered an opportunity to train as Food and Health Leaders.  Previous Leaders will also be considered.
