The FETAC level 5 Felling and Processing Small Trees (Chainsaw) course was delivered over a four day period on the  9th, 10th 11th and 12th of December 2013; 3 days for the practical element of the course and 1 day assessment,  to 6 male participants under the Community Strand of the Back to Education Initiative

Of the 6 participants, 4 were engaged on LPC Community Employment Scheme and the remaining 2 were engaged in our LPC Unemployed Mentoring Programme

The Chainsaw Course was delivered by Coillte in Straboe, Portlaoise

The purpose of this course is to equip the learner with the knowledge skill and competence to fell and process small trees.  The course covered chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting which is used for cutting firewood, stakes and fencing materials.

All participants’ are given pre and post course mentoring under the Unemployed Mentoring Programme
