Project Description
METAC Training is the largest energy training and assessment centre in Ireland and the UK and trains approximately 2,700 people annually. All participants at the centre are equipped with practical skills that are nationally recognised by FAS, Bord Gais, City & Guilds and OFTEC.
The training facility was established by Dominic Dunne in 2006 with start-up funding provided by the then Laois LEADER. The facility originally specialised in providing training in the installation and services of oil, gas wood pellet ,solar, geothermal and heat pump systems and quickly became a market leader in this area.
In 2010 METAC expanded the remit of the centre to offer more specialist training in renewables. In particular, they invested and installed a 16 metre 6KW wind turbine and accompanying Photovoltaic system. Grant support was again provided by Laois Partnership (through Rural Development -LEADER- Programme to part fund this expansion.
METAC Training recently received an OFTEC award, winning the OFTEC Best Training Centre (in Ireland and the UK) of the Year 2014 at the OFTEC Awards of Excellence that took place
