There was seasonal spice and a cultural splice this December between the local community and more recent residents in the county, when the sights, scents and sounds of Ukrainian Christmas festivities filled the Portlaoise Parish Centre.
Laois Partnership Company had the pleasure of supporting what was the third annual event of this nature, which showcased ‘Vechornytsi’, a traditional performance of how Ukrainians celebrate Christmas. Organised by the Ukrainian Laois Support Association, the Ukrainian choir ‘Malva’ performed along with the children’s choir ‘Dzvinochky’, with special guests from Kilkenny, music group ‘Grono’.
Besides feeding the soul, there was also a feast for the body as an array of mouthwatering cuisine was laid on, with Ukrainian dishes such as baked meats, stuffed cabbage rolls, homemade sausages, varenyky (dumplings), fried fish, pancakes, and buns creating a display that was as colourful to the eye as it was pleasing to the palate.
Among those in attendance were community representatives, including members of the Laois Integration Network, Fáilte Isteach Portlaoise, the Laois Volunteer Centre, and the Women’s Shed Portlaoise, who all enjoyed an evening filled with Christmas songs, stories, delicious dishes, and the unforgettable atmosphere of festive cheer.
У грудні відбулася святкова подія, що об’єднала місцеву спільноту та українських жителів округу, коли парафіяльний центр міста Портліш наповнився українськими різдвяними традиціями.
Компанія Laois Partnership мала честь підтримати вже третій за рахунком захід такого роду, який продемонстрував «Вечорниці» — традиційне українське святкування Різдва. Організатором виступила Українська асоціація підтримки графства Ліш, а український хор «Мальва» виступив разом із дитячим хором «Дзвіночки» та спеціальними гостями із Кілкенні-музичною групою «Гроно».
Окрім того, що захід зігрівав душу, була також велика втіха для тіла, адже на столах була представлена різноманітна смачна їжа: запечене м’ясо, фаршировані капустяні голубці, домашні ковбаски,вареники, смажена риба, млинці та пиріжки — усе це створювало кольорову та апетитну картину.
Серед присутніх були представники громади, включаючи the Laois Integration Network, Fáilte Isteach Portlaoise, the Laois Volunteer Centre, and the Women’s Shed Portlaoise, who які насолоджувалися вечором, наповненим різдвяними піснями, історіями, смачними стравами та незабутньою атмосферою святкового настрою.
