Durrow High Nelly Bike Hire
Michael Bobby Campion of “Bob’s Bar” in Durrow has for many years been a keen collector of of everyday objects, including artefacts and printed ephemera/photographs, relating to life and the people of Durrow and its hinterland Co. Laois. He has developed this collection into a museum exhibit which is housed in his bar which is located by the River Nore in Durrow. The exhibits reflect very much the enthusiasm Michael has towards old bygones, or the things used by people in their daily lives. Central to his exhibit is a comprehensive collection of High Nelly Bicycles.
In 2012 Michael decided to capitalise on a surge of interest in cycling and in outdoor pursuits by establishing a bicycle hire business specialising in the hire of original reconditioned High Nelly bicycles. He is very proud to say that this is the only place you can hire an original authentic High Nelly bicycle, some of which are 70 to 80 years of age! High Nelly Bicycles are available to hire on a daily basis for just €10.
Laois Partnership provided support for this venture through the Rural Development (LEADER) Programme. Funding was provided to support the purchase of equipment and also to market the new enterprise.
