Food for thought at Street Feast

The food was just as good as the company at the O’Moore Place Allotment in Portlaoise recently, when our second Street Feast served up a succulent array of tasty dishes alongside a hearty portion of community spirit.

Organised in conjunction with Neighbourhood Network’s Our Shared Plate project, the Street Feast was an opportunity for people to bring along a dish to share with their local community, featuring workshops and activities for all the family. There was also a tour of the allotment, with tea, scones and snacks to tuck into.

As well as delicious food courtesy of chef Ann Devitt, there was face painting and a variety of children’s activities; a basket willow weaving demonstration delivered by multi-media artist, Lynn Kirkham; a presentation on using food waste and food preservation by ecologist Alex Konieczka, who is founder of Understory, an environmental and zero-waste organisation; and a community oven consultation with Eilish Langton, who is a former coordinator with Creative Places Athy.
