Failte Isteach English Conversation Classes

Failte Isteach is a community project involving volunteers welcoming migrants through conversational English classes. The programme provides necessary language skills to new migrants in a student- centred and inclusive manner, whole involving volunteers and recognising their skills, expertise and contribution to the community.

In Laois, Failte Isteach classes are provided by Laois Partnership Company in conjunction with Third Age (Failte Isteach National Programme), Laois Offaly ETB and Respond Social Housing.

All migrants living in Laois who wish to improve their English conversational skills are welcome to join Failte Isteach. Volunteer tutors are recruited from the local community and come from a wide range of backgrounds. Volunteer are trained locally by Third Age and ongoing support is provided.

Students come from all over the world. The classes provide both a social outlet and learning facility. Classes are free of charge and take place in Portlaoise, and Rathdowney at various times throughout the week. Weekly classes also take place in the Direct Provision Centre in the Montague. Conversation is provided to students with all levels of English including elementary, beginner, intermediate and advanced.
