Sample Project – Support for innovative service provider to the Forestry Sector

Seamus Whelan of Ballymaddock, Abbeyleix approached Laois Partnership in 2012 with a proposal to expand his forestry related training business and also to develop a forestry extraction service targeted at inaccessible and environmentally sensitive areas of forestry.

On the back of a successful application he received funding to:

1) Purchase a customised mobile training unit for delivery of forestry related training in situ within forestry sites. ( Seamus is s qualified to offer training to the industry accepted standards i.e. City and Guilds, NPTC and Lantra Awards.)

2) Purchase a mini forwarder to develop a forestry extraction business. This innovative is enabling Seamus to provide a forestry service to onwers of previously inaccessible and commercially non-viable areas i.e. environmentally sensitive areas, wetlands and peatlands
